The United States has urged its citizens to immediately leave Venezuela, warning that the country’s security situation is fluid and unpredictable, advising against all travel there.
In a statement issued by the US Embassy, Washington said Americans currently in Venezuela should depart as soon as possible now that limited international flights are available. The advisory warned of serious risks including crime, civil unrest, arbitrary detention and the activities of armed groups, noting that US consular services in the country remain suspended and that the government is unable to provide emergency assistance to its citizens.
US officials said there have been reports of armed civilian groups setting up roadblocks, stopping vehicles, raising concerns about the safety of foreign nationals. Venezuela remains under the highest level of US travel advisory, a Level Four warning, which urges citizens not to travel under any circumstances.
Venezuela’s government swiftly rejected the alert, describing it as baseless, politically motivated. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the warning was aimed at fabricating a false perception of insecurity and insisted that the country is experiencing calm and stability.
The travel advisory comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Caracas, following recent developments that have further strained relations, raised concerns over regional stability.
