Five Forest Guard officers of the National Park Service have been killed, following a bandit attack on the National Park Office in Oloka Village, Oyo State, the state government has confirmed.
The attack, described as criminal and devastating, occurred earlier today while the officers were carrying out their lawful duties. The Governor said the loss of the personnel was deeply painful. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the repose of their souls.
Preliminary investigations by security agencies indicate that the incident was a cross border attack carried out by bandits. Authorities said security agencies are working jointly to respond to the situation and have called on residents of the area to cooperate by providing useful intelligence.
The Governor appealed to residents of Oyo State, particularly those in Oriire Local Government Area and other border communities, to remain calm, assuring them that normalcy has been restored, additional security personnel have been deployed to the affected area.
He added that the state government would take decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such attacks, would leave no stone unturned in strengthening security across border communities.
