UNN APPOINTS CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE, PROF. URAMA, JAMES ROBINSON AS VISITING PROFESSORS

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has appointed globally acclaimed writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, African Development Bank executive, Professor Kevin Chika Urama, and Professor James Robinson of the University of Chicago as Visiting Professors.

The appointments, approved by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Simon Ortuanya, were conveyed through official letters dated 18th December, 2025.

According to the University, the Visiting Professors are expected to participate in teaching, collaborative research, mentorship, and other strategic academic engagements aimed at strengthening UNN’s global profile.

Chimamanda Adichie was appointed in recognition of her outstanding contributions to literature, creative writing, and global intellectual discourse.

The University said her engagement would greatly enrich the arts and humanities through lectures, scholarly interactions, and mentorship of students and young academics.

Professor Kevin Chika Urama, a development economist and senior official at the African Development Bank, was appointed based on his expertise in development economics, climate policy, and evidence-based policymaking.

UNN said his presence would boost teaching and research in economics, development studies, and related fields.

Also appointed is Professor James Robinson, a renowned political economist at the University of Chicago, noted for his work on institutions, governance, and economic development.

The University said his appointment would deepen academic collaboration and expose staff, students to global scholarship.

Speaking on the appointments, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Inya Agha Egwu, said the move aligns with the Vice-Chancellor’s vision of attracting eminent global scholars to reposition UNN on the world stage.

He added that the appointments bring the number of Visiting Professors approved in December 2025 to four, describing the development as a strong signal of the University’s renewed drive for global excellence
