POLICE ARREST SUSPECT OVER CULT-RELATED KILLING OF A 25-YEAR-OLD

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the cult-related murder of a 25-year-old man in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday, December 16 by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Jimoh Kazeem, who said the incident occurred on December 14 at Shine Villa, Opomulero street, Owo.

According to the statement, suspected members of a cult group forcefully gained entry into the premises, attacked the victim, identified as Ayodele Peter, aged 25.

“Upon receipt of the information, it was alleged that suspected members of a cult group forcefully gained entry into the premises, attacked one Ayodele Peter, male, aged 25,” the statement read.

DSP Kazeem said the report prompted the immediate deployment of police operatives to the scene, supported by intelligence-led policing and a swift tactical response.

The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Following the attack, police operatives launched a manhunt which led to the arrest of one suspect in connection with the crime.

“The suspect has made useful statements and is presently in custody, while concerted efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects currently at large,” the police spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers involved for their swift, professional response, describing it as a demonstration of the Command’s enhanced capacity for timely intervention.

CP Lawal also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, especially during the festive period, noting that security measures across the state have been reinforced.

He further directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to remain vigilant, ensure robust security coverage in all parts of the state.
