GOVERNOR UMO ENO MOVES FIRE SERVICE TO HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE OFFICE, INAUGURATES POLICE HQ ROADS

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that effective January 1, 2026, the Fire Service Directorate will be moved from the Ministry of Works to operate alongside the Occupational Safety Directorate under the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

The Governor made the announcement on Monday, during the commissioning of a 1.4-kilometre span of internal roads constructed within the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.

Speaking before cutting the tape, Governor Eno explained that the realignment was aimed at ensuring optimal functionality, coordination of the Fire Service with other safety-related departments of government, in line with his administration’s commitment towards public safety, efficient service delivery.

The Governor used the occasion to sympathize with a police officer whose residence, property were recently destroyed by fire, leaving his family homeless.

He announced a donation to support the officer in securing accommodation for his family.

On the recently awarded Light Up Police Stations Project, Governor Eno directed relevant officials of government, the Nigeria Police Force to expedite action towards ensuring the project is completed, commissioned on or before April 2026.

He commended the Police and other security agencies for their support in crime prevention, particularly in the coastal areas of the state, reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue serving Akwa Ibom people with dedication and responsibility.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Ahmed Azare, expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for his support to the Nigerian Police, noting that such gestures have served as a morale booster to officers, men of the Force.

Providing technical details of the project, the Commissioner for Works, Professor Eno Ibanga, disclosed that the construction of the 1.4-kilometre internal road network followed Governor Eno’s visit to the Police Headquarters in 2024, during which he directed that the roads be built to give the State Command a befitting, functional ambience.

Professor Ibanga stated that the project includes six culverts and 400 metres of outfall drains, adding that the road was constructed to withstand the test of time.

After the commissioning, Governor Eno proceeded to the State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he donated two operational vehicles to strengthen the agency’s operational capacity.
