The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has again announced a major reduction in its petrol gantry price, lowering the ex-depot rate from N828 to N699 per litre.
Real-time market data from Petroleumprice.ng on Friday confirmed the latest downward review, representing a N129 cut per litre, a 15.58% reduction in the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) benchmark price.
An official of the refinery, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also verified the price change.
“The refinery has reduced petrol gantry price to N699 per litre,”
-refinery official.
The new rate took effect on December 11, 2025, marking the 20th petrol price adjustment announced by the refinery this year.
The fresh reduction comes barely days after the refinery’s Chairman, Aliko Dangote, reaffirmed his commitment to keeping domestic fuel prices “reasonable, competitive” despite global instability and lingering smuggling along Nigeria’s borders.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu on December 6, Dangote said consumers should expect further price drop as the refinery scales up production and competes directly with imported fuel.
“Prices are going down. The reason prices have to go down is that we have to also compete with imports,”- Dangote said.
He admitted that although smuggling has reduced, it remained a challenge, due to the wide price gap between Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

“There is still quite a lot of smuggling because the price we have in Nigeria is about 55 per cent lower than the price in neighbouring countries.”
Dangote emphasized that the refinery was prioritizing long-term value over swift returns.
“We are not here to make our $20 billion back quickly; it’s a long-term investment, petroleum products will continue to be sold at a reasonable price.”
Market Reacts as Private Depots Cut Rates
The refinery’s latest price action triggered fresh adjustments across several private depots, according to Petroleumprice.ng.
• Sigmund Depot reduced its ex-depot price by N4, now selling at N824 per litre.
• Bulk Strategic implemented a N3 cut.
• TechnoOil recorded one of the steepest reductions with a N15 drop.
• Other depots including A.A. Rano, NIPCO, and Aiteo also made slight downward adjustments in response to the new Dangote pricing template.
