There is sigh of relief for Abuja motorists – following removal of the barricade connecting Goodluck Jonathan Expressway with Ring Road 11 at the busy Galadimawa interchange, thereby opening up the axis to vehicular movement.

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) had the slip road barricaded on July 1, 2025 at the peak of the rainy season.

This was contained in an e-signed statement from FEMD’s Head Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja.

Speaking at the removal of the barricade, the Ag Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed explained that the road has been reopened, following the cessation of the rainy season.

Abdulrahman, who was represented by the Head of the department of Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mr. Mark Nyam, disclosed that the barricade was to restrict vehicular movement due to recurring flooding on the road.

He said: “This yearly ritual is little but mighty because it goes a long way to save lives before the completion of the on going construction work”.

Similarly, Assistant Chief Resident Engineer, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Abdulkadir Musa noted that the construction of a permanent solution to the slip road was ongoing.

The project is massive, capital intensive. “There is a bridge on the axis”

“All this closing and reopening of the slip road is a temporary measure during the rainy season to save lives”, he stated.

Furthermore, the FEMD’s statement recalled that heavy floods in 2019 claimed the life of Director of finance, FCT High Court, Mr Tony Okwechime.
