The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Benin Zonal Directorate, has arrested a 64-year-old man, Ndubisi John Iheukwumere, for allegedly defrauding a petitioner of N165 million in a land sale scheme in Delta State.

According to the Commission, Iheukwumere reportedly conspired with an accomplice, Mrs. Salt Adaeze Udoka, who is currently on the run, to obtain the money under the pretext of selling 100 acres of land located in Ewulu Kingdom, Delta State.

The petitioner was said to have paid the suspect in two separate tranches after being assured that the property was genuine and available for immediate possession.

However, EFCC investigators disclosed that attempts by the petitioner to take possession of the land failed, leading to the discovery that the property did not belong to the suspect.

Iheukwumere allegedly impersonated the rightful owners of the land and presented false claims to defraud the victim.

The Commission stated that the suspect has already confessed to the crime.

He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations, while efforts are underway to track down his fleeing accomplice.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling all forms of economic and financial crimes, warning members of the public to exercise due diligence in property transactions.
