The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has set a target of at least 2.3 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

Yari announced the target on Saturday during the APC presidential campaign rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

He said the party would intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state, working with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other political stakeholders.

According to Yari, Rivers State has approximately 3.3 million registered voters, with about 2.8 million having collected their Permanent Voter Cards.

He expressed confidence that the APC could secure between 75 and 80 per cent of the votes through coordinated mobilisation.

The figures cited by Yari represent the party’s assessment and campaign target, rather than an official projection by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Speaking at the rally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Rivers residents for supporting Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

Akpabio also highlighted the administration’s economic policies, including tax reforms and revenue generation, while urging supporters to maintain their political support.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described the Tinubu-Shettima ticket as capable of sustaining the administration’s reform agenda.

He maintained that the government’s economic decisions, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, were intended to strengthen public finances and support long-term development.

Senator Magnus Abe, speaking for Rivers political stakeholders, defended the Rainbow Coalition, describing it as an alliance of politicians with different interests but a shared commitment to Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Yari also criticised opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, questioning their records in public office.

He further argued that Nigerians willing to work should be able to provide for their families, a remark made amid continuing public debate over economic hardship.

The campaign rally brought together APC leaders, government officials and supporters from Rivers State and other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.

The commission will be responsible for determining the final number of eligible voters and announcing official election results.
