President Bola Tinubu has declared that he will spend Friday night in Akwa Ibom State, describing the planned stay as a “second-term presidential sleep” while expressing confidence in his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu made the statement during an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Addressing party supporters, the President thanked residents for their reception and expressed optimism about securing another four-year mandate.
He said he intended to spend the night in the state and dream of victory in the forthcoming presidential election.
Tinubu also urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the electoral process.
He described the PVC as an important instrument through which citizens could determine the country’s political direction.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, education, skills acquisition and employment opportunities.

He also identified Akwa Ibom’s agricultural resources, particularly oil palm production, as an area with potential for economic expansion and job creation.
According to Tinubu, investment in agriculture and skills development could help create sustainable economic opportunities for residents.
The President’s visit also included the inauguration of infrastructure projects undertaken by Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
Projects listed for the visit included facilities at the Victor Attah International Airport, road infrastructure and other public development initiatives.
Tinubu’s remarks came amid criticism from opposition figure Peter Obi, who had questioned the President’s record of spending nights in Nigerian states outside Abuja and Lagos.
Obi had argued that presidential visits and overnight stays could demonstrate greater engagement with communities and their challenges.
However, previous reports documented Tinubu’s overnight visit to Katsina State in May 2025, contradicting the broader suggestion that he had never stayed overnight in another Nigerian state.

The President’s declaration in Uyo therefore adds to the political exchanges surrounding his domestic engagements as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
According to the Presidency’s itinerary, Tinubu is expected to travel to Rivers State on Saturday for another APC rally in Port Harcourt.
His planned overnight stay in Akwa Ibom had not yet been independently confirmed as completed at the time of this report.
