Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has assured the newly appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance, Owerrinta, Commodore Emmanuel Onu, of continued cooperation and support from the state government.

Otti gave the assurance on Thursday, November 5, while receiving the outgoing Commandant, Commodore Babatunde Quadri, and his successor during a courtesy visit to Government House, Nvosi, in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

The governor commended Quadri for his professionalism, dedication and contributions to security coordination during his 19-month tenure at the institution.

He particularly acknowledged the outgoing commandant’s participation in the state’s monthly Security Council meetings, describing his contributions as valuable to cooperation among security agencies.

Welcoming Onu, Otti urged him to consolidate the achievements of his predecessor while pursuing improvements in the college’s operations and institutional development.

The governor maintained that leadership transitions should provide opportunities for greater accomplishments rather than merely preserving existing standards.

He assured the new commandant that his administration would maintain its partnership with the Nigerian Navy and provide assistance where necessary to support the institution’s responsibilities.

Otti also emphasised that effective security management required sustained cooperation between government authorities and security agencies.

He highlighted the successful completion of four infrastructure projects at the college, including internal roads, a resurfaced parade ground, a reconstructed swimming pool and transit accommodation for naval personnel.

The facilities were formally commissioned on October 26 through collaboration between the Abia State Government and the Nigerian Navy.

Earlier, Quadri thanked the governor for the support extended to the institution throughout his assignment, describing his experience in Abia as rewarding.

He noted that the state’s cooperation had contributed to improvements in the college’s infrastructure and working environment.

The outgoing commandant also expressed confidence in Onu’s ability to build on the institution’s achievements.

Similarly, the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Navy Commander MacDonald Uba, explained that Quadri’s redeployment was consistent with the Navy’s posting arrangements.

Responding, Onu expressed appreciation for the reception and pledged to maintain productive relations with the state government.

He also committed to sustaining existing initiatives and strengthening cooperation between the Navy and other stakeholders in Abia State.
