The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has renamed its Presidential and Parliamentary Campaign Committee as the Parliamentary Campaign Committee following objections from party officials over the composition and leadership of the original list.

The decision followed protests by members of the state executive committee and reports that the party’s national leadership rejected the establishment of a parallel presidential campaign structure.

Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, announced the revised designation in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The committee will continue to be headed by the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as Director-General.

The controversy began after the state chapter announced a campaign committee intended to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats in the 2027 general elections.

The announcement raised concerns because Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier inaugurated a separate presidential campaign council in Osun State.

Four state APC officials subsequently rejected the newly announced list, alleging that its composition violated established party procedures and excluded important stakeholders.

The officials were Publicity Secretary Wole Adunola, Welfare Officer Adesola Ayangbile, Assistant Organising Secretary Rasheed Adeniji and Ex-Officio member Abiola Ololade.

In their joint statement, they argued that several members of the State Working Committee who should have been included were omitted.

They also questioned the establishment of another presidential campaign structure without sufficient consultation or coordination with the existing council.

The officials maintained that a separate parliamentary campaign committee would be more understandable, provided its responsibilities were clearly distinguished from those of the presidential campaign council.

They called for consultations involving the party’s national leadership and relevant state stakeholders to resolve the disagreement.

Following the objections, Lawal announced that the committee would operate under the revised parliamentary designation.

The state chairman explained that the committee would support the existing Presidential Campaign Council while coordinating activities relating to APC candidates seeking legislative offices.

He also reaffirmed the state chapter’s commitment to working with other party stakeholders ahead of the elections.

Although the change addresses concerns about overlapping presidential campaign structures, questions surrounding the original committee’s composition and the inclusion of excluded officials remain.

The development highlights internal disagreements over campaign coordination within the Osun APC as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
