A 29-year-old Nigerian man, James Abiwon, has died after a tree collapsed onto his vehicle during Storm Boelo in north London, United Kingdom, just weeks before his 30th birthday.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, along Dollis Road in the Mill Hill and Finchley area, when powerful winds brought down a tree onto his moving car at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Emergency responders, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance crew, rushed to the scene, but Abiwon was pronounced dead despite efforts to save him.
According to Metro UK, the deceased was a technology sales executive and graduate of the University of Essex who had distinguished himself professionally and through sporting and musical activities.
His cousin, Tyrrell Okolo, described him as a devoted family man, talented footballer and mentor who positively influenced those around him.
Abiwon had reportedly played semi-professional football with Aldershot and pursued a music career that attracted approximately 40,000 viewers on YouTube.
He had also recently received recognition as Business Development Representative of the Year at his workplace.
His close friend, Kwame Affum, 29, expressed shock over the tragedy, recalling that they had played padel together just two days before the incident.
Affum described Abiwon as energetic, talented and passionate about sports, adding that he was an Arsenal supporter who had graduated with First Class honours.
The deceased had been preparing to celebrate his 30th birthday with a padel tournament, which his friends now intend to organise in his memory, with proceeds supporting his family.
Witnesses reported that the fallen tree blocked the road and severely damaged the vehicle, while relatives and friends gathered at the scene during emergency operations.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers received reports of a tree falling onto a moving vehicle at approximately 12:40 p.m.
Authorities are working with the local council and coroner to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Storm Boelo brought wind gusts reaching 84mph across parts of Britain, causing widespread transport disruption, power outages and damage to infrastructure.
The storm also claimed the life of 60-year-old Richard Baines, who was struck by a falling tree in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
Abiwon’s death has prompted tributes from family members, friends and community residents mourning his sudden loss.
