The Nigerian military says troops of Operation HADIN KAI have killed 48 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters while repelling coordinated attacks on military installations in Borno and Yobe states.
The engagements occurred between October 29 and 30 at military positions in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and the North East Theatre Training School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development in a statement published on the Nigerian Army’s social media platform on Friday.

According to Goni, troops stationed in Bitta came under attack on Thursday night but successfully repelled the assault with support from military aircraft.
He said the combined ground and air response inflicted casualties on the attackers, forcing them to abandon their operation.
In a separate engagement, ISWAP fighters reportedly launched an assault on the North East Theatre Training School in Buni Yadi, triggering an intense battle that lasted approximately five hours.
The military said troops mounted a coordinated counter-offensive involving ground forces, air support and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
According to the statement, the operation resulted in the deaths of 48 suspected insurgents and the recovery of substantial quantities of weapons and ammunition.
The recovered items reportedly included 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four general-purpose machine guns, one 60mm mortar and 105 AK-47 magazines.
Troops also recovered two video cameras and thousands of rounds of ammunition of various calibres.
The military confirmed that one soldier was killed during the engagements, while two others sustained injuries and were receiving medical treatment.
It said troops remained on alert as operations continued to prevent further attacks and consolidate security around the affected military installations.

The Theatre Command described the outcome as a setback for insurgent groups operating in the North-East, maintaining that the coordinated response had disrupted their offensive plans.
However, the reported militant casualty figure has not been independently verified.
The latest attacks underscore the continuing security challenges facing military formations in Borno and Yobe, where Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters have repeatedly attempted to overrun security positions.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustained counterinsurgency operations aimed at protecting communities, securing military installations and restricting the activities of armed groups across the region.
