Mourners thronged Bauchi on Friday to pay their final respects to renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, who passed away on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
The Bauchi State Government declared Friday a work-free day to enable residents participate fully in the funeral rites.
Followers, students and Muslim faithful from within and outside the state poured into the city for the burial, prompting a heavy deployment of security personnel to control the crowd and maintain smooth traffic flow.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Maulud Dahiru Bauchi said the funeral prayer would hold at 3 p.m., in strict accordance with the late scholar’s written instructions.
He disclosed that the Grand Imam of Nigeria, Sheikh Sharif Saleh, would lead the prayer.
“The funeral is expected to attract high-profile dignitaries from across the country, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, state governors, emirs and chiefs.
“The massive turnout reflects the profound impact the late scholar had on religious life and moral guidance across the region,” he added.
