President Bola Tinubu has said he will not attend every campaign event organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the demands of governance, economic management and Nigeria’s financial obligations.

Tinubu made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he tasked members with taking the party’s programmes and messages to voters across the country.

The President said he accepted the council’s position that campaign activities should not interfere with his constitutional responsibilities.

He acknowledged that Nigeria required sustained attention, particularly in addressing economic challenges, meeting financial commitments and attracting long-term investment.

Tinubu explained that these responsibilities would prevent him from accompanying campaign officials to every political engagement.

He specifically referred to the country’s financial obligations to international creditors, stressing that government business must continue alongside preparations for the election.

The President also emphasised the importance of attracting investors prepared to establish lasting businesses in Nigeria and contribute to economic development.

Despite his planned limited participation in campaign activities, Tinubu assured the council that he would create opportunities to communicate directly with Nigerians.

He said campaign council members would take primary responsibility for mobilisation and political engagements at the state and local government levels.

Tinubu described the inauguration as an opportunity for the ruling party to reaffirm its responsibilities to Nigerians and present its record, policies and plans to the electorate.

He urged council members to communicate the administration’s achievements and proposals while engaging voters nationwide.

The President also commended APC members for completing the party’s congresses despite concerns that internal disagreements could disrupt the process.

According to him, the successful conclusion of the congresses demonstrated the party’s ability to manage internal challenges and maintain its organisational structure.

The inauguration formally advances the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the campaign council expected to coordinate nationwide political activities while Tinubu continues his official duties.
