Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged party members to put disagreements arising from the party’s primaries behind them and concentrate on preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi appealed the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he emphasised the importance of internal unity, discipline and collective responsibility.
He warned that continued disagreements over the outcome of the primaries could distract members from the party’s electoral preparations.
“If we are still quarrelling about the party’s primary, it is over. We have to win elections,” Amaechi said.

The former Minister of Transportation urged members of the campaign council to recognise the responsibilities assigned to them and work together despite differences that may have emerged during the nomination process.
He also challenged the belief that incumbent governments could not be defeated, arguing that political power was subject to change through elections.
Reflecting on his previous political experiences, Amaechi recounted alleged attempts by security personnel to restrict his movements during earlier campaigns.
He recalled an incident at Akure Airport, where he said a military officer advised him to leave because his safety could not be guaranteed.
Amaechi also described another occasion when he was allegedly prevented from boarding a flight until political leaders intervened.
He cited the incidents as examples of the difficulties opposition politicians could encounter during election campaigns, urging party members to remain determined in the face of challenges.

According to him, the campaign council must draw lessons from previous political contests and avoid internal disagreements capable of weakening the party’s organisation.
Amaechi maintained that cooperation among party leaders, candidates and supporters would be important as the ADC prepares for the presidential and other elections scheduled for 2027.
He urged council members to remain focused on their assigned responsibilities and place the party’s collective objectives above personal disagreements.
