Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed, has called on the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to strengthen service delivery and prioritise the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims ahead of the 2027 Hajj.
Ahmed appealed during a courtesy visit to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Ismail Yusuf, at the Hajj House in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the commission’s Head of Information and Publications, Shafii Mohammed, the former SGF commended efforts by the commission to improve Hajj operations, particularly initiatives focused on pilgrims’ welfare.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in accommodation, transportation, healthcare and other essential services to ensure a better pilgrimage experience for Nigerians.
Ahmed also encouraged the commission to sustain improvements in its operations and strengthen measures aimed at addressing challenges encountered by pilgrims during previous exercises.
Responding, Yusuf appreciated the former SGF’s visit and acknowledged his experience in public administration and contributions to national development.

He described Ahmed as an important stakeholder whose advice and guidance could support ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s Hajj administration.
The NAHCON chairman assured him that the commission would continue engaging relevant stakeholders to improve operational efficiency, transparency and service delivery.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s allocation for the 2027 Hajj has increased from 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims following the approval of an additional 10,000 slots by Saudi Arabian authorities on October 1.
Yusuf welcomed the development, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
He assured prospective pilgrims that the additional allocation would be administered transparently and in accordance with established regulations and operational procedures.

The increase is expected to provide more Nigerians with opportunities to participate in the 2027 pilgrimage, while placing additional responsibility on NAHCON to ensure adequate preparations and effective coordination.
The commission is expected to work with state pilgrims’ welfare boards and other relevant agencies to facilitate arrangements for the exercise.
