The Delta State Police Command says it has recovered an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns and 55 rounds of live ammunition during separate operations targeting suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and cult members in the state.

The command also recovered two AK-47 magazines, seven live cartridges and other items, while three suspected members of the Black Axe confraternity were arrested during the operations in Ughelli North and Ethiope East local government areas.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, CP-SAT, acting on intelligence, raided a suspected kidnappers’ and armed robbers’ hideout in a bush around Uduere Community, Ughelli North LGA, at about 9 p.m. on October 4.

According to the police, the suspects opened fire after sighting the operatives, leading to an exchange of gunfire before they fled the area.

A search of the hideout subsequently led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 55 rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action gun, seven live cartridges, a knife, a cutlass and a mobile phone.

Edafe said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation at about 12:45 a.m. on October 5, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, QRS, raided a location along Ekrakra Road in Kokori, Ethiope East LGA, following intelligence about suspected cult activities.

Police said several suspects fled when they sighted the operatives, but three men were arrested.

The command identified them as Uzubu Ufuoma, 33; Solomon Ovie, 27; and Remember Emuere, 31.

According to Edafe, the suspects later led officers to an abandoned building at Okodjerhe Village in Kokori, where another pump-action gun allegedly linked to the group was recovered.

The three suspects remain in police custody while investigations and efforts to arrest other suspects continue.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Samuel E. Erale, said the command would sustain operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and cult-related activities across the state.

He also urged residents to provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious persons and activities in their communities.
