The Akwa Ibom State Government has pledged to rehabilitate facilities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

Governor Umo Eno gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch C, Stream I corps members, where 1,978 participants formally took the oath of allegiance.

The governor, represented by Emmanuel Akpabio, a director in the Ministry of Youth Development, acknowledged concerns over the condition of facilities at the orientation camp and assured the corps members that steps would be taken to improve accommodation and training facilities.

Eno congratulated the corps members on completing their academic programmes and encouraged them to see their national service as an opportunity to contribute to the development of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

He described the corps members as partners in nation-building and urged them to use their service year to promote national unity by looking beyond ethnic, religious and linguistic differences.

The governor also assured them of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year.

He said the government would continue working with relevant security agencies and other stakeholders to protect corps members and residents from harassment and other threats.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Akuagbaogu Rosemary, raised concerns over the condition of facilities at the camp, particularly accommodation.

She said the rainy season had compounded existing challenges as the camp accommodates the large number of corps members deployed to the state.

Akuagbaogu appealed for urgent government intervention to improve accommodation and other facilities needed for the welfare, safety and comfort of corps members.

She also acknowledged the state government’s approval for a new orientation camp and expressed hope that the project would help address the challenges facing the scheme in the state.
