A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of creating obstacles for opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima alleged that opposition politicians were increasingly finding it difficult to carry out political activities freely in parts of the country, raising concerns about what he described as restrictions on democratic participation.
He argued that political parties and candidates should be able to campaign, address supporters and move freely without intimidation or obstruction.
The NDC chieftain also alleged that some opposition figures had encountered attacks and other difficulties during political engagements, although the claims were not independently established.
Galadima said such developments should concern Nigerians because competitive elections require all political parties to have reasonable opportunities to present their programmes to voters.
He also raised concerns over the cost of political campaigns and the ability of candidates and parties to comply with statutory spending limits.

According to him, the cost of campaign materials, particularly political billboards in some states, could consume a significant portion of the amount legally permitted for election spending.
He questioned how political parties could remain within prescribed campaign expenditure limits if they were required to spend substantial amounts on advertising and other basic campaign activities across several states.
Galadima called for greater scrutiny of campaign financing and equal political participation as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
His remarks form part of a series of recent criticisms he has directed at the ruling party. In previous public comments, Galadima alleged that the APC was seeking to weaken opposition parties and make their participation in the 2027 elections more difficult.

The allegations remain Galadima’s claims, and they do not by themselves establish that the Federal Government or APC has deliberately restricted opposition campaigns.
