The Ogun State Police Command says it arrested 11 suspects and recovered two suspected stolen vehicles, three firearms and 25 Automated Teller Machine cards during separate operations across the state.
The operations, conducted between September 16 and 26, also resulted in the recovery of mobile phones, electrical materials and other exhibits.
Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the operations were carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.
“Among the highlights are the arrest of 11 suspects, recovery of two suspected stolen vehicles, three firearms, 25 ATM cards, multiple mobile phones and assorted electrical materials, as well as the impoundment of eight vehicles for obstruction of traffic,” Babaseyi said.
According to the command, detectives attached to the Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle at Mokoloki Village on September 17.
Two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, were arrested in connection with the alleged theft, while another suspect identified as Saheed remained at large.
In another operation, officers from the Olorunda Division intercepted three people along Ayetoro Road on September 19 while they were allegedly transporting stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle.
Police arrested Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, while a third suspect identified as Tosin reportedly escaped.
Bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit-breaker box allegedly stolen from a residence were recovered.
On September 21, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics team from Base 7, Abule-Iroko, arrested three suspects after intercepting an unregistered tricycle and an unregistered TVS motorcycle around Dalemo, Ota.
The suspects were identified as Olamide Ayandele, 30; Tope Samuel, 40; and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30.
Police said preliminary investigations linked them to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis.
The command also arrested Ameachine Anthony, 45, on September 22 over an alleged ₦2.5 million fraud.
Police said 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones were recovered from the suspect.
Investigators alleged that the case involved utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards used through associates to facilitate the opening of bank accounts, after which ATM cards were allegedly collected for fraudulent transactions.
The suspect and recovered exhibits were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Also on September 22, SWAT operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following intelligence concerning a suspected cult-related gathering.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Adebayo Sodiq, 36, and the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.
Police said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapons and identify other persons who might be connected with the case.
Detectives from the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office also recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner and arrested Olatunji Olalekan following intelligence gathering and tracking.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Sagamu Area Command and adjoining divisions conducted a “No Parking” enforcement operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge on September 26.
Eight vehicles found allegedly obstructing the highway were impounded, with police saying they would be processed for prosecution on September 28.
Ojajuni commended officers involved in the operations and residents who provided information to the command.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and provide credible information to security agencies.
