Fresh attacks have continued in parts of Plateau State despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas following renewed security threats.
The state government imposed the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. restriction on September 21 to enable security agencies to stabilise affected communities, protect residents and prevent further violence.
However, separate attacks were subsequently recorded in Barkin Ladi and Mangu, with security personnel and civilians among those killed.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that a security operative attached to Operation Rainbow was killed after gunmen attacked personnel along Gagshi Road between Barkin Ladi and Bokkos on Tuesday night.
Three civilians were also killed in a separate attack at Rakok, also known as Kafi Abu, in Barkin Ladi.
Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo said investigations were underway to identify those responsible for the attacks.
In Mangu, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement reported that three men were killed in an attack at the Kyikyau-Gyambwas boundary in Mangu Halle District at about 7:39 p.m. on Tuesday, during the curfew period.
The victims were identified as Samson Dachet, 45; Gambo Fwangyil, 50; and Zughumnan Bamaiyi, 35.
The group called for increased patrols, faster security response and intelligence-led operations, arguing that restrictions on civilian movement should be accompanied by stronger protection of vulnerable communities.
The curfew followed a series of attacks across Plateau, including incidents in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Mangu that had already resulted in multiple deaths.
The Plateau State Government said the restriction would remain in effect until further notice and directed security agencies to enforce it alongside a ban on motorcycles in the affected areas.
The continuing violence has renewed concerns among residents and community groups over security in the affected communities despite the emergency measures.
