The Sokoto State Government has awarded a ₦1.59 billion contract for the procurement of 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles to strengthen security operations against banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
The contract, valued at ₦1,592,250,000, was among decisions approved at the eighth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Ahmed Aliyu. The state’s procurement portal lists the contract for the 30 vehicles at the same amount.
The government said the vehicles would enhance the mobility and operational capacity of security agencies as the state intensifies efforts to tackle insecurity.
The latest procurement comes as the Aliyu administration continues to provide vehicles and other logistical support to security agencies. At the council meeting, the governor said the state would sustain operations against banditry until affected communities were safer and displaced residents could return home.
The council also approved a bill for the Sokoto State Banditry Special Prohibition Law, 2026, aimed at strengthening the legal framework for tackling banditry in the state.
In other approvals, the council sanctioned ₦776.34 million for the procurement of 10 Mitsubishi Canter vans and ₦122 million for two additional Toyota Hilux vehicles.
It also approved ₦118.14 million for the completion of 30 lock-up shops at the Sokoto State Transport Authority terminal.
In the education sector, ₦844.65 million was approved for the renovation and rehabilitation of facilities at Government Science Secondary School, Gwadabawa.
Another ₦182.26 million was approved for the renovation of Kebbi and Gwandu hostels at Idris Koko Technical College, Farfaru, while ₦123.91 million was earmarked for the renovation of classrooms, construction of a perimeter fence, access roads and other facilities at Ahmadu Bello Academy, Farfaru.
The council further approved ₦168.67 million for the renovation of eight housing units at Shehu Shagari College of Education and ₦132.46 million for library equipment at Shehu Shagari University of Education.
It also approved ₦550.42 million for the construction of a storey administrative block at Aliyu Magatakarda College of Technology and Advanced Studies.
A bill to repeal the Shehu Shagari College of Education Law, 2026, was also approved to give the institution a dual mandate to award both National Certificate in Education and degree qualifications.
In the veterinary sector, the council approved ₦234.67 million for the construction of a perimeter fence at the Veterinary Specialist Hospital.
The state government said the approvals formed part of its continuing interventions in security, education, infrastructure and public service delivery.
