The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has handed over N80 million recovered from a property transaction to a businessman, Ifeanyi Innocent Madueke, following his petition over an alleged failed land deal.
The Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, presented the N80 million draft to Madueke on Wednesday, September 24, 2026.
Madueke, 42, had reportedly paid N232.8 million to Austine Muanya Okafor for the purchase of 146 acres of land in a community in Delta State.
However, he was unable to take possession of the property despite completing payment. His efforts to secure a refund from Okafor allegedly proved unsuccessful, prompting him to petition the EFCC.
According to the Commission, its investigation established that Madueke transferred the money to the suspect in three separate instalments.
Presenting the recovered funds, Sa’ad said the EFCC would continue to carry out its responsibilities professionally and with integrity, stressing that fraudsters would not be allowed to benefit from proceeds obtained through fraudulent dealings.
Receiving the draft, Madueke expressed appreciation to the Commission for its intervention, saying he had almost given up hope before petitioning the EFCC.
“I am grateful to the Commission for what they have done. I had lost hope before I came to EFCC. I thank the management and staff for the good work they are doing,” he said.
