The Cross River State Police Command has launched a search for a male hotel guest who disappeared after checking into a hotel in Calabar South with a woman who was later found dead.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been established, was discovered dead at the hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, in an incident the police are treating as a suspected homicide.
The command disclosed this in an update issued on Wednesday on the case, which was initially reported on September 8, 2026.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had lodged at the hotel with an unidentified man whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
Investigators are working to locate the man and establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
As part of efforts to identify the deceased and locate her relatives, the police have released her photograph and appealed to members of the public for information.
The command urged anyone who recognises the woman or has information about her identity, family or the whereabouts of the male guest to contact the police.
Meanwhile, the receptionist who was on duty when the two guests checked into the hotel remains in police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
The receptionist is being questioned about the admission of the guests and the events preceding the discovery of the woman’s body.
The police, however, stressed that the receptionist’s detention does not mean he is guilty, adding that any further action would be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and objectively.
