The Cross River State Police Command has released the photograph of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel in Calabar South, as investigators continue efforts to establish her identity and trace a male guest who reportedly lodged with her.
The Command, in an update on Wednesday, said the suspected homicide was initially reported on September 8, 2026, at a hotel along Clifford Lane in Calabar South Local Government Area.
Police said the photograph was released as part of efforts to identify the deceased and locate her relatives or associates.
Members of the public who recognise the woman or have credible information about her identity, family or associates have been asked to contact the police.
Preliminary investigation, according to the Command, indicated that the woman lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose whereabouts remain under investigation.
Police said efforts were ongoing to locate the man and establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Meanwhile, the hotel receptionist who was on duty when the guests were admitted remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with information concerning their admission and events preceding the discovery of the woman.
The Command cautioned against interpreting the receptionist’s continued detention as evidence of guilt.
“His custody should not be construed as a determination of guilt, as any further action will be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law,” police said.
Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed investigators to conduct the probe professionally and objectively.
According to the Command, the investigation is focused on establishing the identity of the deceased, determining the circumstances surrounding her death, locating the male guest and establishing whether any other persons played a role in the incident.
Police appealed to anyone with credible information that could assist the investigation to approach the nearest police station or contact the Command through its designated channels.
