National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu led a high-level Nigerian delegation to the United States to address concerns over the targeted killing of Christians in Nigeria.

The team included Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector General of Police; Lateef Olasunkami Fagbemi, Attorney General of the Federation; General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; and Lt. Gen. EAP Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Also present were Idayat Hassan, Special Adviser to ONSA; Ambassador Ibrahim Babani, Director of Foreign Relations, ONSA; Ambassador Nuru Biu, Acting CDA, Embassy of Nigeria; and Paul Alabi from the Political and Economic Section of the Embassy of Nigeria.

US Congressman Riley Moore announced the meeting on social media, describing it as frank and productive. He said the Nigerian delegation shares the federal government’s concerns over counterterrorism, security assistance, and the protection of vulnerable communities amid ongoing violence across the country.

“Today I had a frank, honest, and productive discussion with senior members of the Nigerian government regarding the horrific violence and persecution Christians face and the ongoing threat terrorism poses across Nigeria.

“I made it clear that the United States expects tangible steps to ensure Christians are not subject to violence, persecution, displacement, or death simply for their faith in Jesus Christ.

“We are ready to cooperate with Nigeria to combat terrorism perpetrated by Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militants against the population, particularly Christians in the Northeast and Middle Belt.

“The Nigerian government has the opportunity to strengthen its relationship with the United States. President Trump and Congress are united in their resolve to end the violence against Christians and disrupt terrorist groups within Nigeria.

“I urge the Nigerians to work with us in cooperation on this critical issue,” Moore added.
