Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have recovered a large herd of rustled cattle after intercepting suspected terrorists fleeing a community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops reportedly intercepted the suspects along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi axis after receiving intelligence from Asarara Kaura community about their movement.
A military source familiar with the operation said the troops responded to intelligence about the suspects’ movement and the stolen livestock.
According to the military account, the suspects engaged the troops before retreating into surrounding areas and abandoning the cattle.
“The troops responded to credible intelligence and intercepted the terrorists along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi axis,” the source said.
The military source said some of the suspects were believed to have been injured during the encounter, although no independent casualty assessment was immediately available.
RECOVERED CATTLE TO BE RETURNED TO OWNERS
The recovered livestock have been taken into military custody while authorities work to establish ownership.
The military said the cattle would be released to their owners following verification.
“The cattle will be handed over to the rightful owners after proper verification. The objective is to ensure that the recovered livestock gets back to the affected communities,” the source said.
No arrests were immediately reported in connection with the operation.
Operation Fansan Yamma is part of ongoing military operations targeting terrorism, banditry, cattle rustling and other security threats across Nigeria’s North-West region.
The latest recovery comes amid continuing security operations aimed at protecting communities and recovering livestock and other property taken during attacks in affected areas.
