Nigeria emerged as Africa’s fourth-largest aviation market in 2025, recording more than 18.8 million domestic and international passenger movements during the year, according to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
The figure underscores the scale of passenger traffic across the country’s airport network and Nigeria’s position among Africa’s major aviation markets.
FAAN said the 18.8 million passenger movements covered both domestic and international travellers processed through Nigerian airports during the year.
The ranking places Nigeria among the continent’s leading aviation markets by passenger traffic, reflecting the importance of air transportation to domestic mobility, international travel, business and economic activities.
Nigeria operates one of Africa’s largest networks of domestic air routes, connecting major commercial and administrative centres including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and other cities.
International passenger traffic is also concentrated around major gateways, particularly the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The passenger figures come as authorities continue efforts to improve airport infrastructure, safety, security and operational efficiency across the country’s aviation sector.
FAAN is responsible for the management and operation of federal airports across Nigeria and oversees infrastructure and services supporting millions of passengers annually.
