The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members for allegedly extorting unsuspecting candidates.
The Board disclosed this in its release bulletin on Monday, saying the disciplinary action was part of its renewed efforts to rid the admission and examination system of fraudulent practices.
JAMB said the affected staff member was dismissed for exploiting candidates, stressing that its fight against corruption and misconduct extends to its own workforce.
According to the Board, the sanction was intended to reinforce its zero-tolerance policy towards acts capable of undermining the integrity of its operations.
JAMB warned its employees against engaging in unwholesome conduct, particularly actions that could exploit candidates or members of the public.
It stated that any staff member found abusing their position or compromising the Board’s operations would face appropriate sanctions in line with established rules.
The Board further emphasised that it would not shield employees who abuse the trust placed in them by candidates and members of the public.
JAMB said maintaining a clean, accountable and professional workforce remained essential to preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s admission and examination processes.
The Board added that the fight against fraud must begin from within, assuring the public that misconduct by its officials would attract consequences regardless of the staff member’s status or position.
