The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, over an alleged case of conspiracy, fraud and self-kidnapping.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu following an investigation into her reported abduction.
The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the woman was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026.
According to him, her family subsequently paid N3 million in ransom, but she was not released, prompting the police to intensify their investigation.
Mr Ikenga said sustained intelligence gathering eventually led operatives to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where the woman was found and rescued on September 18.
The police spokesperson said preliminary findings indicated that the woman allegedly worked with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose full identity had not been established, and another male accomplice whose identity was still unknown.
He said the suspects allegedly staged the kidnapping to obtain money from the woman’s family.
“Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the lady allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another male accomplice, whose identity is presently unknown, to stage her own kidnapping and obtain money from her family,” Mr Ikenga said.
The police said the woman was assisting investigators with information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and identify her suspected accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Amah, has directed that the investigation be intensified, according to the command.
The police said anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
