The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike has vowed that he won’t go down, despite the battles facing him in the FCT, as he has the courage to keep doing the right thing.
Wike said as FCT Minister, even though he knew that in doing the work, he will step on toes, but he is not afraid as long as he is doing the right thing.
The Minister made the assertion in Abuja, on Wednesday when the management of The South-South Development Commission (SSDC) paid a courtesy visit to the FCT Administration.
“Everyday, there are attacks left, right, and center. Sometimes, I go home and laugh—that’s Nigeria. When people think they can manipulate you, they’ll try everything to bring you down. But I won’t go down.
” I’ll keep doing the right thing. I’m not perfect—nobody is—but I’ll always do what I’m supposed to do.
” In Nigeria, it’s not easy. People want you to do things the old way. And when you refuse, you automatically become an enemy. Don’t be afraid of that. Do the right thing.
“Our country’s biggest challenge has always been leadership. When a courageous leader decides that business as usual must end, people resist. They fight it.

“I’m sitting here today as FCT Minister, whatever criticisms people throw at me, I leave with my head high. They can call me stubborn—that’s fine. The right thing must be done”, he stated.
Furthermore, Wike told those appointed to run and oversee the SSDC that the only way to justify their appointments and make the region and President Bola Tinubu proud— is to work tirelessly to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda in your region.
He said: “The development of your region depends heavily on your commitment. We all know what happened when several of these commissions were established.
“It took real courage from Mr. President to create commissions across the regions—no former president had done that. A leader without courage can’t deliver results.
“In the name of the South-South region, show a difference. Don’t make Mr. President think he made a mistake”.
Responding, Managing Director of SSDC, Miss Usoro Akpabio, assured Wike that the Commission would not betray its mandate.
“On behalf of the good people of the South-South Development Commission, be assured that we are fully committed to delivering on our mandate to drive regional development and economic growth.
She added that the Commission would strengthen its liaison office in Abuja to ensure robust engagement with federal agencies.
