The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed individual and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a coordinated operation in Peu village, Bali Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the operation was carried out on Friday by police operatives working alongside local hunters under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Isokpan.
Mshelizah said the team apprehended a 40-year-old man from Peu village and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with eight rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, along with two magazines.
He added that the suspect confessed to possessing the illegal firearm, and investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the weapon and identify the suspected supplier.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to curbing the proliferation of illegal arms and ensuring the safety of communities across Taraba State. It also encouraged residents to provide credible information that could assist ongoing security efforts by contacting the nearest police formation.
