First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured with a traditional chieftaincy title in Imo State.
Mrs Tinubu was on Wednesday conferred with the title “Oso Di Eme I of Imo State” during her visit to the state.
The First Lady’s Senior Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi, announced the development in a statement shared alongside photographs from the ceremony on her X account.
According to Kukoyi, the title translates to “She who supports her husband,” describing it as a recognition of Mrs Tinubu’s role alongside her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She said the honour reflected the First Lady’s support for the President and her contributions to his administration.
“A worthy partner of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As he’s working, she is working,” Kukoyi stated.
Photographs from the ceremony showed the First Lady dressed in colourful traditional attire decorated with symbols associated with the All Progressives Congress and the Nigerian flag.
She was also seen wearing a red headwrap and coral beads while holding a ceremonial fan bearing the inscription “OSO DI EME”, alongside a white horsetail flywhisk.
The chieftaincy honour was conferred during Mrs Tinubu’s visit to Imo, where she was received by traditional rulers in the state.
The latest recognition comes a few months after the First Lady was similarly honoured in Enugu State.
In June 2026, she received the traditional title “Ugosimba I of Enugu,” which means “Jewel of Empowerment” in Igbo.
The Enugu honour was reportedly in recognition of her efforts towards women’s empowerment and social development across the country.
