The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has pledged its support for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) ahead of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum scheduled for November.
The NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, made the commitment when he received an NIPR delegation led by its Vice-President, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, in Abuja.
Nafiu stressed the importance of image-making and perception management to the growth and survival of organisations, noting that effective corporate communication was essential across all sectors.
He commended NYSC Public Relations Officers for their efforts in projecting the image of the Scheme, saying image-making and perception management had been integral to NYSC since its establishment.
“Image-making and perception management have been part of NYSC since inception,” he said.
The NYSC boss also praised Dandaura for his contributions to the establishment of the NYSC National Cultural Troupe and commended NIPR for its support during the recent abduction and subsequent rescue of 16 corps members in Kogi State.
Nafiu assured the delegation that other requests made by the institute in connection with the forum would receive due consideration.
Earlier, Dandaura, who represented the NIPR President, Dr Ike Neliaku, congratulated Nafiu on his achievements during peacekeeping missions and commended his performance since assuming leadership of the NYSC.
He also praised the Scheme for mentoring corps members and exposing them to Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) opportunities.
Dandaura disclosed that representatives from 126 countries were expected at the week-long forum, which would attract more than 2,000 delegates from around the world.
He said the programme would include a youth summit and the unveiling of a University of Public Relations and Leadership to be established in Nasarawa State.
According to him, partnering with NYSC would provide an opportunity to showcase Nigeria and the Scheme to the international community through the participation of foreign delegates.
“We think NYSC should take a central place because we are expecting a lot of guests. We need tour guides and Corps Members that will work with us, whom we can monitor their behaviour and who will sell Nigeria appropriately,” he said.
Dandaura said NIPR was seeking to train and deploy 100 corps members to assist with the organisation and coordination of the international forum.
“We want to invite you to partner with us, and we want to have 100 Corps Members that we will train to work with us as participants,” he added.
