The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stepped up patrol operations across churches and border communities as part of efforts to keep residents safe during the ember months.
Following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, officers of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, working with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups, carried out a special patrol on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
The day-long operation, which lasted from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., covered forested routes and border areas connecting Bwari to Kaduna State, Bwari to Niger State, and Gwagwalada to Niger State.
According to the Command, the exercise was aimed at deterring criminal activities, boosting public confidence, and ensuring that worshippers can attend services without fear.
During the patrol, police officers met with church leaders in the affected areas, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to their safety. They were also encouraged to take proactive steps such as avoiding late-night gatherings, maintaining contact with nearby security formations, and promptly reporting any suspicious persons or activities.
CP Dantawaye has also directed the immediate closure of known access routes often used by criminals. He added that security posts in forested zones will remain manned and closely monitored to prevent infiltration.
While reiterating that security is everyone’s responsibility, the Police Command urged residents to stay alert and cooperate fully with security agencies.
For emergencies or security-related information, residents are advised to reach the FCT Police Command through 08032003913 or 08068587311, the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) on 08107314192, or the Public Relations Officer on 07038979348.
