The Federal Government has expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of China following devastating floods and landslides along the China-Nepal border on August 26, 2026.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, said the disaster resulted in several deaths, left hundreds injured and caused extensive destruction in Gyirong County, Tibet.
The Nigerian government also commiserated with the families of Chinese and Nepali victims, as well as foreign nationals from Australia, India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the United States who were affected by the disaster.
Nigeria commended Chinese President Xi Jinping and the country’s rescue teams for their swift response and ongoing humanitarian efforts to assist victims and affected communities.
The Federal Government said Nigeria stands in solidarity with China during the difficult period, while expressing condolences to the bereaved families.
It also prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives and wished the injured and displaced persons strength and recovery as rescue and rehabilitation efforts continue.
