POLICE SMASH ARMED ROBBERY GANG IN AKWA IBOM

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled a notorious three-man armed robbery syndicate and recovered weapons in a major breakthrough against crime in the State

According to a statement issued on Monday, November 10, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operation was part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to rid the State of criminal elements under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare.

The police spokesperson disclosed that on Friday, November 7, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspects at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme, Essien Udim Local Government Area.

The suspects were identified as Akan Udo, 40, from Ikot Edem Udo, and Namso Monday, 20, from Ikot Umo Essien, Odoro Ikot. They were reportedly receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments at the time of arrest.

The statement added that the native doctor, suspected of providing assistance to the criminal gang, fled the scene and is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend him.

Further investigation led to the arrest of a third suspect, Mbata Udo, 40, from Ikot Ukpong Offiong, believed to be connected to the same armed robbery network.

A search conducted by the police resulted in the recovery of several items, including: one locally made pistol, one locally made revolver pistol, 16 machetes, six mobile phones, two big generators, one battle axe, one plier and other incriminating items.

DSP John confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion.

Commending the officers involved, CP Baba Mohammed Azare reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain the fight against violent crime in Akwa Ibom State.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and to continue providing useful information to the police to help maintain peace and safety across the State.
