Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has said the quality of infrastructure delivered by his administration will strengthen the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.
Fubara said the party’s candidates would be able to showcase the administration’s achievements during their campaigns, particularly as they seek to connect with voters at the grassroots.
The governor spoke while commissioning the 14.5-kilometre Agba-Ndele Road and a 200-metre bridge linking communities in Emohua and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas of the state.
He described the projects as strategic infrastructure that would improve connectivity and stimulate development across the affected communities.
Fubara said the Agba-Ndele Road and bridge were part of his administration’s commitment to extending development beyond urban centres and ensuring that government projects deliver tangible benefits to residents.
He explained that the intervention became necessary following the poor condition of the old Abua Road, which had caused commuters to spend long hours travelling between the communities.
The governor also charged the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Chidi Lloyd, and his Abua/Odual counterpart, Owolobi Michael Ofori, to take responsibility for protecting government projects located within their respective jurisdictions.
He urged residents of Agba-Ndele and neighbouring communities to regard the road and bridge as community assets and play an active role in safeguarding them.
Giving details of the project, the Commissioner for Works, Professor Temple Nwofor, said the road stretches 14.5 kilometres and has a 10.3-metre binder-course width, a 7.3-metre wearing-course width and three-metre shoulders.
He added that the drainage system measures 0.6 metres by 0.6 metres.
According to him, the project is expected to improve movement between communities in Emohua and Abua/Odual and provide residents with a more efficient alternative for transportation and economic activities.
