Osborn Nweze Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has been elected chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The 28-year-old contested the local government election on the All Progressives Congress platform and emerged victorious after a campaign focused on grassroots mobilisation, economic development, and improved local administration. After being declared the winner, Umahi said he would not collect salary or allowances throughout his tenure.

He said the decision was aimed at ensuring that more local government resources were channelled into development rather than personal financial benefits.

Umahi also pledged to prioritise infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic opportunities and improved public service delivery across Ohaozara.

During the campaign, he presented himself as part of a younger generation of politicians seeking to introduce private-sector ideas, efficiency and innovation into local government administration.

He said strengthening grassroots governance was essential to addressing the economic and social challenges facing residents of the area.

Umahi is the son of David Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State who currently serves as Minister of Works.
