A dispatch rider has died in a multiple road accident involving two trucks at Ijesha, inward Mile 2, Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Eagle Response Team responded promptly to the crash involving a FAW truck, an Iveco truck and the dispatch rider.

According to the agency, preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was caused by reckless driving and wrongful use of the road by the two truck drivers.

LASEMA said the FAW truck reportedly struck the Iveco truck while both drivers were allegedly competing for right of way. The Iveco truck then hit the dispatch rider from behind, killing him.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Okota Division evacuated the victim’s remains to a morgue for identification and further procedures.

The two trucks were subsequently removed from the main carriageway and parked at a designated lay-by to prevent further obstruction and restore the free flow of traffic.

LASEMA said the operation, carried out with the police, was successfully concluded and the road was declared safe for motorists.

LASEMA warns truck drivers

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commiserated with the deceased’s family and urged commercial drivers to avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and competing for lanes.

He stressed that road safety was a collective responsibility and called for strict compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable deaths.

LASEMA also reaffirmed its commitment to rapid emergency response and collaboration with other agencies to protect lives and property across Lagos State.
