The U.S.-Africa Trade Commission has appointed Dr Fakunle John Aremu as its Country Director for Nigeria.
The appointment was contained in a letter dated July 10, 2026, and signed by the commission’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Titus Olowokere.
Aremu, an international trade, investment and economic development executive, has more than 15 years of experience working across Africa.
Under the appointment, he will also serve as a member of the commission’s Executive Committee, where he is expected to contribute to the organisation’s trade, investment and economic cooperation agenda between the United States and Africa.
The commission said Aremu would represent it across Nigeria and engage with government agencies, diplomatic missions, investors, businesses, universities, chambers of commerce and development partners.
His responsibilities include promoting bilateral trade, investment, tourism, innovation and economic cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
He will also identify and facilitate investment opportunities, business transactions, joint ventures and public-private partnerships.
Other responsibilities include building strategic relationships with key institutions, leading membership recruitment, mobilising sponsorships and donor funding, and organising trade missions and business forums.
Aremu will also be required to submit periodic reports on partnerships, investment pipelines, membership growth and fundraising activities.
In his capacity as Nigeria Country Director, Aremu is expected to lead efforts to strengthen U.S.-Nigeria trade, investment and strategic partnerships.
The commission said his experience engaging governments, international development institutions and private-sector stakeholders would enable him to connect investors and businesses with credible opportunities while supporting measurable economic outcomes.
