Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, when the terrorists launched an assault on the military position.
The Theatre Command said the troops responded effectively, forcing the attackers to retreat after several of them were neutralised.
Weapons, ammunition and communication gadgets were recovered from the terrorists, while surveillance footage reportedly showed casualties being evacuated by the fleeing attackers.
The military, however, said some soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter after part of the base’s defence was temporarily breached, resulting in damage to some vehicles and combat equipment.
The injured personnel were evacuated and are said to be in stable condition and receiving medical attention.
The military said troops remain deployed in and around Gajiram to prevent further attacks, while exploitation of the operational area continues.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and report suspicious movements to security agencies as the military sustains operations against ISWAP in the North-East.
