AKWA IBOM ACTIVATES HIGH-SPEED INTERNET AT UYO AIRPORT

Akwa Ibom State Government has activated a high-speed digital internet backbone at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, as part of efforts to transform the facility into a smart international aviation hub.

The infrastructure, powered by MainOne, was switched on Saturday as part of the State’s digital transformation drive under the ARISE Agenda.

Governor Umo Eno, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, said reliable internet connectivity was critical to modern economic development and would support the State’s smart city vision, security architecture and digital economy.

The Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr Frank Ekpenyong, said the airport is now connected to MainOne’s submarine fibre-optic network, providing multi-gigabit-per-second connectivity.

He said the facility would improve digital services at the airport and support the State’s emerging security surveillance infrastructure.

MainOne’s Managing Director for West Africa, Wole Abu, commended the State Government for embracing digital technology, assuring of continued partnership in expanding connectivity.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Aviation and Airport Development, Uwem Ekanem, said the new infrastructure would enhance passenger experience, operational efficiency and the airport’s readiness to meet global standards.
