The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the February 2027 Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

The submission deadline, earlier fixed for Saturday, August 8, has now been extended to Tuesday, August 11, 2026, following appeals by political parties for additional time.

Meanwhile, INEC says the window for voters who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs to download their cards will close at midnight on Sunday, August 9.

The Commission said the measure is necessary to enable it finalise statistics on PVC downloads ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

INEC also announced that replacement downloadable PVCs are available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas, where original cards were reportedly stolen during an invasion of two collection centres.

The Commission stressed that the stolen cards cannot be used to vote and assured Osun residents of its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive election on August 15.
