A coalition of civil society organisations under the Partnership for Ethical Governance has called on political parties contesting the August 15 Osun State governorship election to uphold democratic principles and ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The coalition’s chairman, Comrade Debo Adeniran, expressed concern over increasing reports of political violence, intimidation and attacks ahead of the poll, warning that such incidents could undermine public confidence in the election.

He stressed that elections should not be treated as a battle, urging political actors to respect the rights of voters to freely choose their leaders without fear or coercion.

The coalition also appealed to political parties, including the APC, ADC, Accord Party, APM and others, to caution their supporters against violence before, during and after the election.

It further urged politicians to avoid inciting youths to engage in electoral violence, emphasising that disputes arising from the election should be resolved through lawful and constitutional means.
