The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has given the Ogun State Government 72 hours to secure the release of students abducted from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade.
NANS Secretary-General, Oladimeji Uthman, issued the ultimatum during a press conference in Abeokuta on Wednesday, warning that the association would begin a statewide protest if the students were not rescued within the deadline.
The student body also demanded justice for Sekinat Ahmed, an HND II student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, who was killed during a robbery attack in Eruku community on July 27.
Uthman called for increased security around tertiary institutions, including regular patrols, permanent security posts and the deployment of the Ogun Anti-Violent Crime Team to vulnerable campuses.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and Governor Dapo Abiodun for deploying a police aircraft to support surveillance and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command said tactical teams and intelligence assets had been deployed in a coordinated effort to rescue the abducted students and arrest the perpetrators.
NANS urged stronger cooperation among institutions, host communities, security agencies and student leaders to improve safety across campuses.
