Ismail Omipidan, public affairs analyst and former chief press secretary to former governor Gboyega Oyetola, has questioned Governor Adeleke’s record in office, arguing that his administration falls short of its promises on teacher recruitment and delivered road projects that are already deteriorating.
Speaking to the media, Omipidan said the government pledged to employ 5,000 teachers and collected application fees from more than 30,000 prospective candidates, yet took over two years to act, eventually attempting to engage only about 1,000, most of them drawn from the governor’s own home area.
He argued that the roads the administration points to as achievements are substandard, citing a recently commissioned road in his LGA that is already swelling, and said footage of it had been shared on social media for Nigerians to see.
In Omipidan’s words: “The incumbent promised to employ 5,000 teachers. They collected application fees from over 30,000 who applied, and for over two years they didn’t do anything until criticism was much. They attempted to employ about 1,000, and 80% of those engaged are from where the man comes from.
The roads you are talking about are substandard. The one commissioned in my local government about a week ago is swelling already.”
