The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it is investigating the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, over allegations made by social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The Force said AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of its internal administrative review, while the criminal case arising from the allegations remains before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Police also disclosed that Otse has been invited to provide evidence in support of the claims he made against the senior police officer.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the Police deemed it necessary to clarify the status of both the judicial proceedings and the ongoing administrative investigation.
According to the statement, the criminal matter referenced by VeryDarkMan had been thoroughly investigated and prosecuted based on the legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Police stressed that the matter is now before the court and, as such, remains sub judice, warning against attempts to influence the judicial process through public commentary.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” the statement read.
The Force further confirmed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning in connection with the allegations.
It also revealed that the Force CID Headquarters in Abuja formally invited VeryDarkMan to appear before investigators on July 30, 2026, to substantiate his claims.
The Police said the actions demonstrate its commitment to accountability and transparency, stressing that all credible allegations of misconduct are investigated through established institutional mechanisms, irrespective of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.
According to the Force, investigations are conducted through channels including the Force CID, the Force Complaint Response Unit and, where necessary, the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.
